- The iButton is also known as a ‘Dallas Key’.
- The reader plugs into a PC USB port on the right side of the head and is secured with two machine screws located beneath a protective cover.
- The iButton interfaces as a UPOS Electronic Keylock device.
- UPOS 1.13.7 or higher is needed to support this interface.
- A keyboard wedge interface is not supported for the iButton reader.
- Data read from the FC 2604 iButton Fob is eight bytes with a fixed value.
- When the iButton fob is placed on the iButton reader, an asynchronous event occurs indicating a status change and the eight byte unique string that is contained in the key fob itself is returned.
- When the key is removed from the reader another asynchronous event occurs, with the data string returned set to all zeros.
- The iButton does not implement any hardware or software based action in and of itself. The application receiving the iButton data must interpret it and then implement the required action, based on the data string returned by the reader.
